Motorola Model Decoder

by Phil Burks - President, The Genesis Group

The Genesis Group has been working with Motorola in many special capacities since 1983. Genesis has been licensed by Motorola for very unusual things to carry on products that Motorola has dropped from their line. This chart is a compilation from many sources, including Motorola technical manuals. While we cannot vouch for 100% accuracy, it should offer a very close representation of the truth.

Motorola generally has two types of model number series that they have used over the last 20+ years. As more models and features have come out, they have revamped their scheme. We have broken this down into the two sections. Please be aware that there can be variations within each model. However, most radios follow the plan shown in this table.

Old Series

Example: D75SRA6B07BK
  D
Dash Mount
D = Dash Mount
T = Trunk Mount
H = Handheld

7
Transmit Power
Varies by model number, but higher numbers mean higher power radios (7&8 are usually 100W)

5
Radio Band
1 = 30-50Mhz
3 = 150-174Mhz
4 = 430-470Mhz

SRA = Syntor
RTA = Micor
BBU = MT500

Options specific to that Model
You must see the cross reference in each radio tech manual for a list of what is what.
