ATIA Filtering

click for larger imageGenSMART consists of two basic pieces that can reside in different parts of a network. The first component is called GenSMART CMAF (Centralized Manager for Agency Filters). The GenSMART CMAF allows the system owner to filter the ATIA data stream with multiple criteria and then direct the information to a defined IP address. For security reasons, this is not a raw ATIA data stream. It is processed by Genesis in order to protect the integrity of the data. The filter interface is password protected and accessible only by the designated system owner/operator. Each filter is created by defining each Agency that will receive the data. Then, a list of Talkgroups for all of that Agency's units is entered. The SmartZone or Dimetra system owner defines what data is permitted to be transmitted to the Agency. At this release, we have predefined two levels of information that can be sent. The most often used preset will be to limit all system based information from being sent to an Agency. This will ensure that each Agency only sees information about its own radios. This CMAF setup is done on an Agency by Agency basis so that each Agency can be unique. It is also possible to set up multiple filters for each Agency to allow almost any combination of data to be sent..

As the diagram shows, only the information for a given Agency will travel across the WAN to the selected receiver. The preferred method of connection for the delivery of this data is via VPN. There is security built into VPN so that only the intended receiver gets the intended information.

At the Agency, the GenSMART User Interface shows all of the available reports that can be run. Each report can be password protected. All of the data that is stored at the Agency for reporting is only data that is related to that Agency. It is stored in SQL tables that are identical to the main GenSZAI data tables used by the system owner. The only difference is that it is missing all system specific information, and, of course, information about other Agencies.

Note: We require that ATIA be installed and operating on your SmartZone, Omnilink or Dimetra system. If you are not sure if you have the ATIA port feature, please click here.

GenSMART ~ secure delivery of filtered ATIA data

GenSMART Technology
We have some very smart software engineers at Genesis. By using a mixture of Microsoft's latest development environments like .NET and C# along with 6+ years experience with the ATIA data stream, we have been able to do the unthinkable. The biggest challenge has been to take the Motorola ATIA data stream that is VERY rich with all kinds of information and actually "dumb it down". For very obvious reasons, SmartZone, OmniLink and Dimetra system owners have not wanted their ATIA data stream to get into the hands of just anyone. We had to find a secure way to only allow certain information to pass to an Agency without allowing other information to pass. We did it. Once that was accomplished, we took our best selling GenSZAI and did some slight modification to make it more appropriate for Agency use, and (as the French say) violá!

How It Works – At A Glance

  • ATIA data filter resides with the system owner, very near to the Zone Controller.
  • Agencies connect to the GenSMART LAN segment with VPN or other connection secure methods.
  • GenSMART sends a low traffic impact stream of data to a modified GenSZAI that resides at the Agency.
  • Data is stored at the agency in SQL files, on a server class machine, for 1-2 years, depending on hard drive space.
  • Reports are run on the data located at the Agency.

How GenSMART Works
click for larger imageAgencies receive a dynamically filtered stream of data that contains only the information about the radios that belong to that Agency. All of the data is stored locally at the Agency office for one to two years (depending on hard disk space) by a module called GenSMART HART (Historical Agency Reporting Tool). GenSMART HART comes with a suite of "canned" reports. All reports in the suite have been created by Genesis in Microsoft Excel so they can be adapted and adjusted by you to fit your needs. Your logos can be locally added to reports and graphs. Specialized backgrounds can be added. Results can be printed, emailed, faxed and delivered in any way that you currently have established. Each canned report contains the following:

  • A setup screen to establish date ranges, ID ranges, etc. for the report. After the information is filled out, the user presses the "Update" button on the screen.
  • A Data Results page contains all of the information from the query that was run when the Update button was pressed. Rows and columns will be filled with the results. In simple reports this can take seconds and in complicated reports looking back over a long period of time this can take many minutes.
  • A Graph page. Where it makes sense on a report, there is a page in the Excel report workbook that contains a pie, line, area, scatter or other type of Excel graph.
  • You can modify each canned report to create a new, special report that you want.
